COP 1 - Participants information

The first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP1) is scheduled to take place from 24 to 29 September 2017 at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG), 17 rue de Varembé, Geneva, Switzerland.

The Conference will culminate in a High-Level Segment on 28 and 29 September 2017 hosted by the President of Switzerland, entitled “Making mercury history”. It will be preceded on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September by preparatory meetings, including regional and Bureau meetings.

Invitations and pre-registration

Invitation letters (English, French, Spanish) have been sent to UN Environment’s official contact points in each Government, with copy to National Focal Points for the Minamata Convention and for the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management as well as to permanent Missions to UN Environment and to the UN in Geneva, as applicable. Invitations have also been extended to intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.

Pre-registration should be completed no later than 23 June 2017 using the online platform available here.


Credentials for Parties to the Convention

Parties to the Minamata Convention are reminded that in order to take part in the decision making process at the Conference, their head of delegation, alternate representatives and advisers must each be accredited in a credential issued either by the Head of State or Government or by the Minister of Foreign Affairs or, in the case of a regional economic integration organization, by the competent authority of that organization.
