Diplomatic Conference

The Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Minamata Convention on Mercury was held in Kumamoto, Japan from 9 to 11 October, 2013. The Minamata Convention on Mercury and the Final Act of the Conference of Plenipotentiaries was adopted by Conference. The Final Act addresses, inter alia, how to promote and prepare for the early implementation of the Convention, arrangements for the interim period between the signing of the instrument and its entry into force - including arrangements for financial and technical assistance during that period – and secretariat arrangements.

Technical Background Report for the Global Mercury Assessment 2013

This is a joint UNEP and AMAP* report that presents the latest and comprehensive information of global mercury emissions and releases to the environment, information on atmospheric and aquatic chemistry and fate and transport of mercury. Global Mercury Assessment 2013

This report presents sources of mercury emissions to air and water. It presents estimates of anthropogenic emissions to air from various sources based on data from 2010 and estimates for releases to aquatic environment. The report also presents the latest information on atmospheric and aquatic chemistry , fate and transport. It is an overall summary report for the policy makers based on a technical background report.
